Tecnology for more efficient conveying

Vacuum timing belts (also known as suction belts) are critical components in vertical packaging machines (VFFS – Vertical Form Fill Seal). Their function is to pull the plastic film downward with millimetric precision, using vacuum to ensure the necessary grip without damaging the material.

Vacuum Structure and Operation

These belts feature specialized machining:


Perforation: Through-holes created using laser or mechanical processes, allowing air suction

Milling: Slots or air chambers on the toothed side to distribute vacuum evenly across the entire contact area

Base Material (Body)

The choice between polyurethane and rubber depends on machine dynamics and required speed.

Polyurethane (PU)​

  • Characteristics: Typically white or transparent, reinforced with steel or aramid (Kevlar) cords.
  • Advantages: Extremely abrasion-resistant, does not release black dust (ideal for clean food or pharmaceutical environments), excellent dimensional stability.
  • Application: Medium to high speeds and constant loads.

Neoprene Rubber

  • Characteristics: Black rubber body with fiberglass reinforcements.
  • Advantages: Greater flexibility than PU, excellent resistance to high temperatures, generally more cost-effective.
  • Application: Machines with small pulley diameters or where higher system elasticity is required.

Coatings

The coating is the part that comes into direct contact with the plastic film. The color typically indicates its chemical and physical properties.
Red Rubber (Linatex or similar) The most common standard coating in packaging applications.

  • Properties: Natural rubber with a high friction coefficient.
  • Advantages: Excellent grip on almost all types of film (PE, laminates, paper); soft and adapts to micro-irregularities.
  • Limitations: Wears faster than synthetic polymers and may leave residues under heavy friction.

Blue Silicone

  • Designed for food and high-temperature applications.
  • Properties: FDA/EU certified silicone for food contact.
  • Non-stick: Ideal for sticky films or in the presence of glue/ink residues.
  • Thermal resistance: Withstands residual heat from nearby sealing bars.
  • Hygiene: Blue color is easily detectable by vision systems in case of fragmentation.
  • Limitations: Lower mechanical resistance to cutting compared to red rubber.
